Artificial ExpectAItions2024 | Memory Card Deck | Cardstock

Inspired by the game Memory, Artificial ExpectAItions is a card game that showcases both the personal and societal expectations of a person in their twenties. The deck contains twenty cards with ten matching pairs – one pair for each age between 20 and 29. Each pair includes one card with an AI-generated expectation for that age, such as "By age 27, around 70% of people in the U.S. are NOT married"; and the other card with a more caring, human written expectation, such as “By age 27 some will experience heart break. And some won’t.” Players must “match” the two expectations for each age. The game discusses themes of family, finance, home ownership, and body image to showcase the various expectations a person in their twenties may be navigating. Visually, the project uses a pixelated aesthetic to reflect technology, as well as a colorful palette to reflect youthfulness. Taken together, these visual components bridge the divide between human expectations and those generated by AI.
